My New Research Poster

So for the new poster I had to build a new canvas stretcher, easily done, Ive made plenty in the past, all sturdy enough and bigger than the one proposed.

Once I created the stretcher It was time to prime it. I primed it with more white paint and when that was dry I went in with a burnt umber as a background, this was watered down so it would look much more washed out.

I still liked the old posters design of looking worn out and rusting in a way so I got some polyfilla and started coating the piece with it. When that was dry I started chipping it off in small places, although i expected it to look more like rusted metal underneath it actually looked like chipped off wallpaper and paint on a pink plastered wall, this was not expected but I loved it more than the previous concept.

In the right hand corner of the piece I decided to paint something which I find extremely relevant to the question I was asking for the poster, I decided to paint 'William Basinskis Disintegration Loops' The smoke rising out of the 2 chasms the twin towers had left on that day.

I also appreciated the printed words I used on the old poster so I decided to do that again, this time using rubber stamps whereas last time I used a stencil, that took much longer.

I then added a clock to the piece so it has a sound aspect to it, the ticking of time slowly moving forward. i am yet to add text above the 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mark to it.

in the bottom right corner I added a small painting of a ghost lurking in the corner to show that persistence of a ghost in this concept.

The next part was the tricky part, making the curtain which goes behind the hole. I started by cutting out a sheet abit bigger than the width of the hole. I then proceeded to iron it flat, fold over the edges so it has a hem then sewing that closed. I then had to find the correct tension to the fabric so it wouldnt be too tight that it wouldnt turn but not too lose so it didnt catch. once I done that I printed out the title for the piece- "how can hauntology be used to reimagine the relationship between sound and painting in contemporary art practice?" I transferred this on to fabric using printable transfer sheets.

it is still yet to be finished, but it will ave all the correct information it needs.

What do I do Next?

I am going to continue with playing around with blender and start making other animations and renders, I might move away from the sheet...
